Plans for New Old Homes
In the eave of a single-story bungalow or in the gable or shed dormer of a one and one half story bungalow the siding material would change to shingles or shakes. Gable ends were often used for venting in warmer climates with the incorporation of screened openings that were embellished with horizontal and vertical lattice work. In areas where basements were not prevalent and homes were built on post and pier systems, the siding would likely extend directly down to a concrete footing or just cut short of the grade line.
